Douglas Hoffman

Douglas HoffmanIn 1985 Douglas Hoffman moved from Colorado to Maui, Hawaii to work in the hotel industry. After an introductory diving trip opened Douglas’s eyes to the world below the sea, he decided to change his course in life. Douglas left his job in hotel management to work as a dive instructor. The beauty of the sea captured him and he took up underwater photography as a hobby.

By 1994, Douglas won several prestigious competitions and become a contributor to airline in flight, photography, and scuba diving magazines in Australia, Japan, and United States. To earn money for photography equipment and travel, Doug worked part time for a wedding photographer in Maui.

In 1995, Douglas met his wife Mieko, a dive instructor from Japan, and the couple spent the next few years dividing their time working in Maui, and traveling throughout the South Pacific. In 1997, the Hoffman's decided to settle down and opened Maui Photography, Inc, specializing in destination weddings, and on location family portraiture. In 2003, Hana Margaret Hoffman was born.

Douglas maintains his passion, by attending photography workshops, leading photography expeditions, and scuba diving whenever possible. So far Doug has over 10,000 hours under water, and there is no end in sight!

During a humpback whale photography trip in Tonga, Doug met Bruce Watkins and Cherylle Millard-Dawe . Doug joins them this year in Pico for the first time.
