Our Code of ethics (approved by IWC)
- We never harass, chase, herd of attempt to split up pods of Whales or dolphins. Cetaceans are wild animals and deserve our respect!
- We never approach Whales and Dolphins head-on or directly from behind, but always slightly to one side of the rear. We aim to move parallel with moving whales. It is important not to change the normal behavioural patterns of the cetaceans.
- We move slowly when approaching and leaving the Whales and Dolphins with our boats. We adopt an idle of 'no wake' speed when in contact. These animals need plenty of space.
- When we approach the whales our minimum working distance is 50 metres
- We avoid sudden changes in direction which could frighten the animals.
- We don't approach or try to separate mothers from calves, or closely approach Cetaceans when resting or feeding.
- If whales and dolphins appear disturbed by our presence for any reason, we abandon contact. Sperm Whales are more sensitive to interference than any other species of large whales.
- We avoid and respectfully request our clients to avoid loud, disturbing noises
- Only under special situations will clients be permitted to enter the water with dolphins. Swimming with whales is strictly prohibited and only permitted under special circumstances with the appropriate scientific licence, documentation and permission from the appropriate governing bodies.
